Police: Man twice tries to take over police cruiser

November 30, 2018

CANTERBURY, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire State Police say a man questioned in a traffic crash twice tried to take over a police cruiser in an attempt to escape.

Police said as a trooper questioned 18-year-old Alan Clark, of Hillsboro, New Hampshire, in Canterbury on Friday, Clark ran toward the trooper’s vehicle, got into the driver’s seat, and accelerated the engine. Police said the two struggled; the trooper pushed the radio microphone button with his elbow. Multiple police units heard yelling and arrived.

Police said Clark was handcuffed and put into a second cruiser, but seconds later, he climbed through an open part of a partition and had his foot on the gas. He was removed and re-handcuffed. Clark was jailed on charges of reckless operation, conduct after an incident, resisting arrest, and escape.
