Authorities: Deputy shoots after patrol car is rammed
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy in South Carolina fired at a suspect in the shooting of two people after the man rammed a deputy’s car during a chase.
Greenville County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Flood said the chase started early Tuesday, about four hours after deputies started looking for 22-year-old Adrian Baumgartner in the shooting of two men in a Greer home.
Flood says when officers found Baumgartner, he drove off in a stolen truck, ramming a patrol car during the chase.
Flood said in a statement a deputy fired at Baumgartner, but he was not struck. Baumgartner was arrested a short time later and faces attempted murder and other charges. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
The deputies weren’t hurt. The shooting victims were taken to a hospital.
