Man attacked, robbed in apartment complex parking lot
Police were called at 1 a.m. Friday to a parking lot at the Gates of Rochester complex on 41st Street Northwest, where a man reported he had been robbed and assaulted while sitting in his car.
The 34-year-old Rochester man said he had just dropped a friend off at the apartment, and while sitting in his car, noticed a red, four-door Toyota circling through the lot, said Lt. Mike Sadauskis, of the Rochester Police Department.
The Toyota parked, and someone got out and approached the driver side of the victim’s vehicle. The attacker confirmed the driver’s identity and then punched him through the open window. Two other men jumped in the passenger side of the victim’s car and started punching him. They took his phone and money from the console, Sadauskis said.
When the victim tried to run away, he fell, and the attackers stomped on him. He heard one of the attackers ask, “Should I shoot him?” but never saw a gun, Sadauskis said.
As the men left, one of them yelled, “Better not call police, we’re going to kill you.”
One of the attackers was described as six feet tall, of large build and wearing a white T-shirt.
The victim theorized the attack might have stemmed from a recent altercation at a soccer game, Sadauskis said.
