EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) _ Rookie defenseman Tom Ponti scored early in the second period and Mikhail Shtalenkov made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 Sunday night.

Pat Falloon and Kelly Buchberger also scored for the Oilers (15-16-3).

The Oilers ended a 0-for-35 power-play drought when Poti opened the scoring at 2:34 of the second period with his third goal of the season. It was Edmonton’s first power-play goal since Dec. 8 in Nashville.

Falloon made it 2-0 with three seconds remaining in the period. Center Rem Murray rushed up the right side and left a drop pass for Falloon. The goals was Falloon’s ninth, surpassing his 1997-98 total of eight in 58 games with Philadelphia and Ottawa.

Buchberger scored shorthanded into an empty net with 46 seconds left in regulation. It was his fourth of the season.

The Oilers, who outshot the Canucks 34-25, are 3-0 this season against Vancouver.

The Canucks (13-17-4) also lost 2-0 Saturday night in San Jose, Calif.
