Maine Football Players Suspended
ORONO, Maine (AP) _ Maine quarterback Mickey Fein and punt returner Darrick Brown were arrested in separate incidents and suspended from Saturday’s game against New Hampshire.
Both arrests came Saturday night, and Fein and Brown are to appear in court on Friday in Bangor.
Fein, 21, of Centerville, Mass., was arrested for drunken driving, hours after he led the Black Bears in a 62-29 rout of Boston University.
Brown, 21, of Atlantic City, N.J., was arrested Saturday night on charges of assault, disorderly contact and unlawful use of a license after refusing to leave an altercation at Geddy’s Pub.
``Last weekend, Darrick and Mickey were involved in situation which reflected poorly on them as individuals and reflects badly on the team,″ coach Jack Cosgrove said Wednesday.
``Being a student athlete at UMaine is a privilege. With that privilege comes certain responsibilities and high expectations for conduct.″
Cosgrove said the decision is not a reflection of the students’ guilt or innocence.
``Mickey and Darrick deserve their day in court,″ he said.
He said any disciplinary action from the university must be separate from the legal system.
