Danbury Old Times Baiad to receive honor
The Greater Danbury Old Timers Athletic Association will honor Nick Baiad with a sports award at its annual banquet, set for Sept. 27 at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury.
Baiad attended Bethel High School from 1962-66 and Providence College from 1966-70, where he specialized in baseball, football, and basketball, performing at an All-Star level in all three.
He was a catcher and first basemen in baseball, a fullback and defensive end in football, and a center/forward in basketball. In fact, he received the Old Timers Athletic Achievement Award in 1966.
Baiad represented the West squad in the 1966 Nutmeg Bowl football game. He played two summers in the Cape Cod Baseball League (1968 and 1969) and was an All-Star both years. He played briefly in the Montreal Expos minor-league system until a severe knee injury ended his career.
Tickets to the banquet cost $45 and are available from Frank Demunda, who can be reached at 203-748-7998 or at email@example.com. Tickets are also available at Pembroke Pumping and Iovino Brothers, both in Danbury. Tickets will not be available at the door.
