DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Police in Durham have a arrested a man who they say led officers on a chase after shooting two people and stealing a car.

A police statement on Tuesday said a man answered a knock on his door and encountered someone he didn't know pointing a gun at him. According to police, the man followed the victim into the house, then shot him and his 79-year-old mother before taking the victim's car.

Officers spotted the car on Monday and tried to stop it, but the driver sped away before losing control and crashing into a tree.

Investigators say 20-year-old Jemar Sherray Beulah Jr., who was injured in the crash, faces numerous charges. He's in the Durham County jail under a $350,000 bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.
