BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina’s Independiente and Brazil’s Gremio played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night in the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final in Buenos Aires.

The decisive match between the winners of the two most prestigious tournaments in South America will be played next Wednesday in Porto Alegre.

Copa Libertadores winner Gremio opened the score with striker Luan at 21 minutes.

The hosts, who lifted Copa Sudamericana last year, leveled it 12 minutes later with an own goal by Brazilian defender Bruno Cortez.

Four minutes before Independiente scored its goal forward Emmanuel Gigliotti was sent off with the help of VAR technology.

Ecuadorian referee Roddy Zambrano at first showed Gigliotti a yellow card for elbowing Gremio defender Walter Kanneman, but changed it to a red after watching the incident on video.
