Surprise snow in Pocatello area causes multiple wrecks on Interstate 15
Surprise snowfall in the Pocatello area Sunday night led to three minor crashes on Interstate 15.
Some areas in Pocatello received up to half an inch of snow Sunday night, though other areas received trace amounts at best, according to Dawn Harmon, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Though a slight chance of snow showers was predicted in some areas of the state, Pocatello was not one of those areas. No warning was issued by the National Weather Service prior to the night’s snowfall.
Harmon said most precipitation reports around the area have been light to nonexistent, calling it a “small-scale event.”
However, Burley, Driggs, Idaho Falls and Rexburg also recorded traces of precipitation Sunday night.
Slushy road conditions because of the snow caused three wrecks on I-15, stretches of which received a layer of snow. However, all of the crashes were minor and there were no injuries, according to the Idaho State Police.
Much of next week is predicted to be dry, with no chance of precipitation until Saturday, when a 20 percent chance of precipitation is forecast.
