Treatment Court Holds Graduation

Luzerne County Treatment Court held a graduation ceremony for program participants Friday at the Luzerne County Courthouse. A total of 13 people graduated from the program Friday. Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. presided over court and Judge William H. Amesbury was the keynote speaker. Started in 2006, Luzerne County Treatment Court is a special Court program for adult residents of Luzerne County who have been charged with non-violent criminal offenses which were related to or motivated by their addiction to drugs or alcohol. The program takes a minimum of one year to complete. Participants are subject to weekly court appearances, frequent drug testing, intensive drug/alcohol treatment and immediate sanctions and incentives. Those who fail to comply with program rules will be sentenced on their charges. Their criminal charges are dismissed at graduation.
