Official: Islamic State no threat of attack in US

September 10, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is reiterating its belief that there is no immediate threat of an attack in the U.S. by Islamic State extremists.

Francis Taylor, the Homeland Security Department’s undersecretary for intelligence and analysis, says the group has capabilities most terrorist organizations don’t possess.

He says the militants are a serious threat to the Middle East and could attack U.S. targets overseas with little or no warnings.

But he says U.S. officials are currently unaware of any credible threat of a potential attack in the United States by the Islamic State.

Taylor and other security officials are testifying Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
