DALTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say a woman is clinging to life after being rescued from a burning home in Dalton.

Fire Chief Gerald Cahalan Jr. says he arrived on the scene at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday and learned that someone may be trapped inside. He tells The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1DAUV62 ) the second floor was already fully involved.

The woman was pulled from a second-floor window and taken to Berkshire Medical Center, before being transferred to another hospital out of the area.

Her name was not made public.

She was the only person in the 2 ½-story home at the time of the fire.

One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause is under investigation but the flames were confined to the second floor.
