Trooper won’t be charged in officer-involved shooting

April 6, 2019

ROCKINGHAM, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont attorney general’s office says a state trooper will not be charged in the shooting of a suspect during a manhunt last month in Rockingham.

Police say the trooper shot and injured 33-year-old John-Victor Wetherby at 12:30 p.m. March 9 after Wetherby had pointed a firearm at him.

Police say Wetherby was treated for a “graze-type wound” at Springfield Hospital.

Wetherby was suspected of aggravated assault in Bellows Falls.

Police say he pointed a firearm at the trooper when police later found him at a vacant home.

The attorney general’s office said Friday that it had reviewed the incident and will not prosecute state police Sergeant Eugene Duplissis for charges related to the shooting.

It was not immediately known if Wetherby is being represented by an attorney.
