All 4 Autism’s 7th annual Pacing 4 Pieces set for March 9
FLORENCE, S.C. – The seventh annual Pacing 4 Pieces Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk will be held on March 9 in Florence.
The half marathon will start at 9 a.m. at the corner of South Coit/West Evans streets. The 5KRun/Walk will start at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of South Coit/West Cheves streets. An after party will follow from noon to 5 p.m. in the 100 block of South Dargan Street.
“We had 500 runners last year,” said Jessica Brown, executive director of All 4 Autism. “We have increased every year and hope to have 750 this year, with even more at the after party.”
Proceeds will go toward the Autism Resource Center of the Pee Dee on Coit Street in Florence.
This community event is presented by ACS Technologies and the Betty S. Campbell Charitable Foundation.
The Armstrong Wealth Piece Jam will take place on the corner of Dargan and Evans streets.
There will be live music by Taste Like Chicken, a mainstream band, and the Clay Brown Band with its Motown sound. Black Tie DJ Service will provide music between performances.
There will be food and beverage vendors.
“We have a Kids Zone with inflatables, games and activities,” Brown said. “I am really excited that this is the first year to have a sensory tent, a calming place, a quiet place to go. Palmetto Animal Hospital will bring their therapy dogs.”
The Chick-fil-A cow and other mascots also will be on hand.
“It’s not just a race,” Brown said. “We want people who don’t run to celebrate, too.”
The Piece Jam is free and open to the entire community. The first 100 people attending will receive Piece Jam bags filled with free items.
The Autism Resource Center opened in April two years ago, Brown said.
“It is the first and only one in the region,” she said. “We provide services and support to not only those with autism but their caregivers and siblings. We are a liaison for the school district. We offer free workshops and counseling and help them find services. It is all free.”
