GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — The former owner of Rangers has been released on bail after being charged with fraud in connection to his purchase of the Scottish club in 2011.

Craig Whyte made no plea or declaration when he appeared in a court in Glasgow on Friday. He returned to Britain on Thursday after being refused entry to Mexico, where he was detained.

Whyte took control of Rangers in May 2011 but the club went into bankruptcy protection the following year.
