America retains Mexican lead with win over Morelia
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico international Oribe Peralta scored in the second minute of added time to help America defeat Morelia 3-2 on Saturday and retain its perfect start to the Mexico’s first division Apertura season after the fifth round.
Pablo Aguilar opened the scoring for Morelia lead in the first half, before Duvier Riascos equalized after the break.
Rubens Sambueza put America ahead again in the 56th, with David Depetris leveling for Morelia.
On Sunday, Chivas lost 1-0 to Santos Laguna, while Atlas remained within two points of America at the top of the league with a 1-0 win on Saturday against Leones Negros.
Colombian Darwin Quintero gathered the ball in his own half, sprinted past two defenders, rounded Chivas ’keeper Antonio Rodriguez and tapped in two minutes from the end.
Atlas forward Luis Caballero converted a penalty in the 89th against Leones Negros, which went down to ten players after Diego Campos was sent off in the 69th
In other weekend matches, a Miguel Sabah header four minutes from time secured a 2-1 win for Leon over Pumas, while Argentine Dario Benedetto scored goal in each half as Tijuana downed Chiapas 2-1.
Puebla drew 1-1 with Tigres, Monterrey beat Cruz Azul 3-1, Queretaro drew 0-0 with Veracruz and Toluca won 3-0 against Pachuca.
