Police: man dies after going off Marshfield town pier in car
MARSHFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police say a man has died after apparently driving a car off the Town Pier in Marshfield south of Boston.
Marshfield Police Chief Phil Tavares tells WATD-FM (http://bit.ly/1Kj2ai2) reports came in about 6 p.m. Monday that a car had gone down the launch ramp into the water. Tavares said the car sank quickly and disappeared.
He said police, firefighters and bystanders managed to get ropes around the car. He said divers smashed the car windows to get the man out and emergency responders tried to revive him. He was taken to South Shore Hospital but did not survive.
The man’s name is not being released until family members are notified.
Tavares said police have video that “should be able to explain a lot of things.”
