Duquesne 30, Iona 13

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) _ Bill Green rushed for 192 yards, and Dave Loya passed for 233 as Duquesne remained unbeaten in the Metro Atlantic Conference with a 30-13 victory Saturday over Iona.

The Dukes (5-0, 7-1) got a 2-yard scoring run from Green, who had 46 carries. He also caught an 11-yard TD pass from Loya, who finished 14-for-21.

But it was two field goals by Kris Bergman that enabled the Dukes to tie the game against the Gaels (3-4, 3-2) then take the lead in the third quarter. His 21-yarder with 9:11 left in the period tied the game at 13, and Bergman put Duquesne ahead with 2:34 remaining.

Bergman also had a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Tim Gribble had a 1-yard scoring run early in the first quarter for Duquesne, but Billy Devito matched that late in the period, giving Iona a 7-6 lead. After Bergman’s first field goal, Devito caught a 23-yard TD pass from Tom Proudian, giving Iona a 13-10 halftime lead.

Green, whose running wore down the Gaels, scored his touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Devito rushed 12 times for 69 yards and caught eight passes for 71 yards for Iona. Proudian was 19-for-32 for 225 yards for the Gaels.

Joe Rosato led the Dukes’ receivers with seven catches for 125 yards.
