Washington County woman accused of Social Security fraud
A Washington County woman is accused of theft of government property and Supplemental Social Security income fraud.
Crystal Bell, 42, of Washington, was named in a two-count indictment, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Wednesday.
Bell was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh.
The indictment alleges that between Jan. 31, 2013 through Nov. 31, 2014, Bell acted as a representative payee for a beneficiary. But she spent a little more than $15,000 in Social Security
benefits deposited in the other person’s bank account on herself.
She also allegedly falsified a document sent to the Social Security Administration indicating that the beneficiary lived in her home.
In reality, the government says, the beneficiary did not live with her -- and wasn’t entitled to receive SSI benefits.
