SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A man in Puerto Rico has been charged with stealing 2,000 plantains, 800 bananas, 300 pounds (136 kilograms) of pumpkins and 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of taro roots.

Police say 36-year-old Pablo Jose Vazquez Rivera broke into a roadside market stand at dawn Sunday in the northern town of Corozal. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 8.

Police said in a statement Thursday that Vazquez told them he had stolen only a few pumpkins and four bunches of bananas from the stand owned by a 76-year-old man.
