Midland basketball’s Sturm accepts walk-on offer from MU
ONA — Cabell Midland High School basketball standout Ty Sturm said Friday he has accepted an offer to walk on to the Marshall University men’s basketball team.
A 6-foot-1 guard, Sturm averaged 11.2 points per game last season to help the Knights to a 19-8 record and the semifinals of the Class AAA state tournament. Sturm scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 64-62 first-round victory over defending state champion George Washington.
“I have thank God for his many blessings,” said Sturm, who helped Cabell Midland to its first winning season since 2010 and first state tournament appearance since 2002. “None of this would be possible without him.”
Sturm also thanked his parents, coaches, trainers, teammates and others.
“It has been a long and unforgettable journey so far, but I’m not finished, yet,” Sturm said.
Sturm drew interest from Florida Atlantic University and several smaller schools before choosing Marshall.
