FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) _ Quarterback Trendell Williams ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Cal State Fullerton opened its new football stadium with a 28-7 victory over Cal State Northridge.

In the season opener for both teams, Fullerton’s Titans rolled up 386 yards of total offense, 293 on the ground.

The Titans held the Matadors to 150 yards of total offense, just 8 yards on ground.

Fullerton shut down Northridge running back Jamaal Farmer, a University of Hawaii transfer who rushed for 2,124 yards on 440 carries during 2 seasons with the Rainbows before quitting the team midway through last season. The Titans limited him to 7 yards on 12 carries.

Fullback Tim Ryan added 68 rushing yards for Fullerton and reserve quarterback Quincy Guy had 55 yards, including a 33-yard scoring run that put the Titans ahead to stay at 14-7 with 5:52 left in the second quarter.

The first game in the new, 10,000-seat Titan Stadium drew the largest crowd ever to attend a Fullerton home opener, 8,279.

The Matadors started the scoring midway through the first quarter when Marty Fisher hooked up with Marlon McBride on a 4-yard touchdown pass.

The Titans tied it in the second quarter on Williams’ 9-yard run.

Williams added his second touchdown late in the third quarter on a 1-yard plunge to increase the lead to 21-7. The Titans closed out the scoring in the final quarter on Steve Danzy’s 5-yard run.
