STANFORD, Calif. (AP) _ Jeremy Morris hit two home runs and drove in five runs Thursday as Florida State routed Northeastern Illinois 16-0 in the first round of the NCAA West Regional.

Winning pitcher Scooby Morgan allowed just one hit over six innings and hit a home run for Florida State (48-15), which plays Friday against the loser of the Mississippi State-UC-Santa Barbara game later Thursday.

Northeastern Illinois (31-28), held to two hits in its first-ever NCAA post-season game, plays Friday against the loser of the Stanford-Cal State Northridge game Thursday night. The loser of that game will be out of the double-elimination tournament.

Morris, playing only the first six innings, went 4-for-5 with a single and a double in addition to the two home runs, which gave him 13 for the season. His double, which drove in a run in the second inning, was his 35th of the season, breaking the NCAA single-season record.

Adam Faurot also homered for the Seminoles, who had 17 hits and scored at least one run in each of the first seven innings.

Morris and Geoff Sprague had RBI singles in the first inning as the Seminoles scored five runs with the help of three errors by the Golden Eagles. Morgan (11-3) gave up only a second-inning single to Brian Hantosh and threw only 69 pitches during his six-inning stint. He walked one, struck out four and pitched to 19 batters, one over the minimum.

Stephen Neill, Scott Proctor and Zach Diaz completed the shutout.

Losing pitcher Jamie Puorto (9-6) gave up 10 runs, six earned, and nine hits in 3-plus innings.
