Life sentence for man who used dumbbell in fatal beating
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A man police say used a 25-pound dumbbell to beat a Rhode Island woman to death in her own bed has been sentenced to life in prison.
The state attorney general said in a statement Wednesday that 49-year-old Brian Audette was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to second-degree murder in the April 2013 death of 57-year-old Donna Pike.
Pike’s body was found in her Woonsocket apartment by police during a well-being check after her landlord called to say he hadn’t seen her in a couple days.
Authorities have previously said the pair had a relationship.
The attorney general says after an argument, Audette struck the victim repeatedly in the head with a 25-pound dumbbell causing blunt force trauma that resulted in her death.
