Jaguars’ Center Agrees to Contract

April 17, 2001

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Center Jeff Smith, who started the final 12 games for Jacksonville last season, agreed to a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Jaguars.

The Jaguars acquired Smith after his release from the Kansas City Chiefs.

The re-signing of the sixth-year player gives the Jaguars greater flexibility for the NFL draft. Without Smith, they had only four experienced offensive linemen. They are still thought to be interested in Michigan guard Steve Hutchinson.
