Former Huntington University official charged with battery
A former high-ranking Huntington University official was charged today with misdemeanor battery in an alleged incident in late July with a man who called him “a friend and mentor.”
Vincent D. Haupert, 50, invited the 21-year-old man to his home in rural Huntington, according to court documents. The men were in bed together July 31, and Haupert fondled the man, a probable cause affidavit alleges.
Police said Haupert admitted in an early August interview to being sexually attracted to the man but the man had not indicated the feeling was mutural.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, Huntington County Prosecutor Amy Richison said today.
Haupert had been the Christian university’s vice president for advancement. He resigned Aug. 7 amid an investigation into the incident by Indiana State Police.
