Sri Lanka pardons 5 Indian fishermen
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has pardoned five Indian fishermen who were sentenced to death for smuggling narcotics.
Presidential spokesman Mohan Samaranayake says the Indians have been handed over to immigration officials for deportation.
The Indian Embassy said Thursday it was making arrangements to bring them home.
A Sri Lankan court sentenced the fishermen to death last month. The fishermen had denied the charges against them.
