August 25, 2001

ATLANTA (AP) _ Luke Prokopec came off the disabled list Saturday as Los Angeles Dodgers manager Jim Tracy tapped him to start against the Atlanta Braves.

Reliever Al Reyes was designated for assignment to make room for Prokopec, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a blister on his right middle finger Aug. 9.

Dodgers ace Kevin Brown said he would return to the rotation in Los Angeles on Tuesday when the team faces the Colorado Rockies.

On the DL since July 18 with a severe sprain in the flexor muscle of his right elbow, Brown threw 80 pitches in a mound session on Saturday. The right-hander is 8-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 15 games, 14 of them starts.

Brown also had a mound session at Florida when he made 50 pitches on Tuesday. He followed that with a 70-pitch session on Thursday.

Prokopec, 6-6 with a 4.69 ERA, was making his 21st start. Reyes went 2-1 with a 3.10 ERA in 15 relief appearances.
