Inmate allegedly assaults guard at Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh
Two Allegheny County Jail correction officers were injured in a fight with an inmate Wednesday afternoon, a prison official said.
One officer was removing an inmate from handcuffs just after 4 p.m. when the inmate became aggressive, Deputy Warden Jason Beasom said.
The man hit the officer in an eye, Beasom said.
That guard and a second one subdued the inmate until other guards could arrive.
Both officers were seen by medics and taken to a local hospital for evaluation “out of an abundance of caution.”
The inmate involved in the altercation was seen and cleared by medical staff. He was not reported to have been injured.
Charges were not immediately filed.
