ALA to hold meeting this week, announces news

November 7, 2018

American Legion Auxiliary Pitterle-Beaudoin Unit 189′s monthly meeting will be Thursday at the Legion post, 206 S. First St. The craft session begins at 5 p.m. The business meeting convenes at 6 p.m., and the executive board will meet after.

November is Membership and Past Presidents Parley Month. Renewals can be paid at the meeting, via the national website at www.ALAforVeterans.org or by calling national headquarters at 317-569-4500. For continued membership, 2019 dues must be paid by Dec. 31. New members are always welcome. Past presidents are remembered and thanked for their service and contributions to Unit 189.

Falling under the community service program, gently-used and/or new cold weather outerwear such as coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens and more can be brought to the meeting for Community Action Coalition. If items were dropped off at the office, members are asked to furnish a list of donations.

The Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation chairwoman encourages members to bring socks, hats and sweatshirts to the meeting for the Madison VA.

Addresses of active duty military personnel are being accepted so Christmas cards can be sent and troop boxes readied.

Veterans Day is fast approaching and the unit is again offering luminaria, both in honor of veterans and those currently serving, and in remembrance of deceased veterans. Forms are available at Piggly Wiggly’s service desk. The deadline is Wednesday.

A luminaria display will be set up Saturday in the Keck Furniture window and remain lit overnight into Veterans Day. For each $5 donation, a luminary will be prepared, with the proceeds going toward troop boxes, both in the states and overseas.

Upcoming events include a bake sale/mini craft fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Shopko Saturday, Dec. 1, and Christmas at the Theater at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Sign-up sheets will be available at the meeting, as volunteers will be needed for both events.

For more information on the organization, call Mary Petrie at 261-8161, the national website listed above or the Wisconsin website, www.amlegionauxwi.org.
