I-57 closures announced for North Street bridge project
BRADLEY — The North Street bridge project will cause nighttime lane/direction closures on Interstate 57 beginning Monday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The closures will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and allow for the removal of beams. Single lane closure can be expected Monday and Tuesday nights. Northbound lanes will be closed Wednesday and detoured using Illinois Route 17 and Illinois Route 50. Southbound lanes will be closed Thursday.
Slowed and stopped traffic can be expected at times, with backups possible. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through the work zone.
D Construction Inc. was awarded the $3.9 contract to remove the existing two-lane bridge. It is being replaced with a four-lane roadway and 8-foot wide shared use path on the north side of the bridge. The project is scheduled to be completed later this year.
