Daughter asks veterans to bid farewell to WWII veteran
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — A woman is asking Georgia veterans to bid farewell to her late father and says she is worried that no one will show up to honor the World War II veteran.
The Gainesville Times reports that a “celebration of life” for Pfc. Cornelius Cornelssen VIII will be held Saturday at noon at the Flowery Branch Masonic Lodge.
Cornelssen died Dec. 17 at the age of 93.
His obituary says he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Bronze Star as well as two Purple Hearts.
Cornelssen’s daughter Candice Easton says she is concerned no one will come, as he was from New York and many World War II veterans have already died.
She says veterans have a “bond” and “matter to each other.”
