No. 3 Capital blanks No. 14 Morgantown 42-0

CHARLESTON — Senior quarterback Kerry Martin Jr. threw four touchdown passes, two to Chance Knox, as No. 3 seed Capital earned a 42-0 victory Friday night against Morgantown in the Class AAA playoffs at University of Charleston Stadium.

Capital (10-1) led 28-0 at halftime. Martin ended 14 of 22 for 195 yards.

For No. 14 Morgantown (5-6), Hunter Finn intercepted a pair of passes. The Mohigans were held to 155 total yards.

NICHOLAS CO. 41, PETERSBURG 10: Jacob O’Dell rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns as Class AA No. 4 Nicholas County (11-0) won its Class AA first-round playoff game.

The Grizzlies controlled the game in the trenches, notching five sacks and forcing Petersburg (7-3) quarterback Jacob Hartman into two interceptions.

Nicholas quarterback Jared Sagraves completed 4 of 5 passes for 96 yards, tossing two touchdowns to Luke LeRose and another to Kyle Groves.

BLUEFIELD 56, OAK HILL 7: Class AA No. 2 Bluefield rolled up 300 yards of offense and allowed No. 15 Oak Hill (7-4) 75 net yards.

Bluefield (10-1) scored less than a minute into the game on a 58-yard dash by J.J. Davis. Davis was the leading rusher of the night, with 94 yards on three carries.

Arnold Martin had 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns on four carries, and Jamere Edwards gained 39 yards and a touchdown on four totes for Bluefield. Quarterback Chandler Cooper was 2 for 5 passing for 49 yards and threw a scoring toss to Davis. Cooper also scored on a 1-yard keeper on his only carry.

MIDLAND TRAIL 14, TUCKER CO. 2: Morgan Ferris rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries to power Class AA No. 2 Midland Trail (11-0) past No. 15 Tucker County (6-5).

Reserve sophomore quarterback Christopher Vines completed two timely passes and had a 5-yard touchdown run for Midland Trail. Vines relieved Austin Isaacs, who departed the game late in the first quarter because of a high-ankle sprain.

PARKERSBURG 28, WHEELING PARK 21: Kionte Peacock’s 87-yard kick return for a touchdown with 6:58 left in the fourth quarter gave visiting Class AAA No. 9 Parkersburg a victory over No. 8 Wheeling Park (7-4).

Down 21-14, the Patriots tied things up on Alex Dunlevy’s 8-yard TD run with 7:11 left in the game before Peacock’s return broke the tie.

Jake Johnson of the Big Reds was 16 for 22 for 235 passing yards and led PHS in rushing with 17 attempts for 62 yards.

RIPLEY 43, GREENBRIER EAST 15: Jeremy Harper rumbled for 118 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Cyrus Casto threw for 188 yards and two more scores and Class AAA No. 5 Ripley (10-1) ran away with a victory over the No. 12 Spartans (6-5).

Casto’s three pass completions included touchdown throws of 79 yards to Dalton Myers and 81 yards to Evan King.
