KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A monkey of unknown origin is on the loose in Tennessee.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that a monkey tried to enter a home in Knoxville on Monday and escaped into the trees when animal control arrived, remaining at large as of nighttime.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk says the monkey appears to be a legal pet. He says authorities aren't optimistic about their chances of catching the animal with the traditional traps they set, and are hoping its owner reports it missing and helps with the capture.

Zoo Knoxville spokeswoman Tina Rolen says the animal appears to be a Capuchin monkey, based on photos. She says the zoo's animals are accounted for.

The newspaper says it's unclear if Monday's solar eclipse affected the monkey's behavior.
