Athlete Of The Week: Wyoming Seminary’s Delaney Romanchick
Wyoming Seminary junior Delaney Romanchick earned wins on the mound last week against MMI Prep, Hanover Area and Holy Redeemer and recorded her 300th career strikeout. For her achievments, she was named Athlete of the Week.
Is the 300th strikeout something you’ve had your eye on?
Yeah, that is something that I was looking forward to. I do keep track, so I knew that I was pretty close and I was excited about that. I do want to make it to 500 before I graduate; that’s my ultimate goal. So hopefully I can get there.
How does getting a big strikeout change the atmosphere at a game? Does it help lift the team?
Yeah, I think it hypes everyone up. I know I get excited when I get a strikeout. It feels good, especially when it’s the first batter of the inning, because getting the first batter’s always the hardest one, so if you can start out the inning with a strikeout, that always gets everyone fired up.
Your team’s on a big eight-game winning streak. Why do you think this team has been clicking so well?
We had some new girls come in this year, and I think that once we got everybody kind of settled in, we figured out how things were gonna work with the new dynamic. Everyone gets along really well, and we kind of found our rhythm, and that’s important.
Do you think this is the year for a deep postseason run?
Yeah, I do think this can be the year for us, for sure.
What is your biggest goal for the rest of the season?
I would love a district championship. I think anyone on the team would tell you the same thing. We’ve never had one of those before, at least in recent history, I think, so that would be exciting.
