Summer Street generator explosion quickly brought under control in Stamford

STAMFORD-A generator explosion and smoke coming from a downtown medical building led police to temporarily close down Summer Street at first Street to allow firefighters to respond to the call.

Smoke was reportedly coming out of the Health Science Center at 1275 Summer Street at 8:45 a.m., but the problem was quickly determined to be in the rear of the building.

As well as closing Summer Street, Oak Street at Bedford was also closed. Summer Street was reopened about 10 minutes later.

Firefighters decided not to evacuate the four story story building because the generator was the rear of the complex.
