Bakker’s Old PTL Resort Now Radisson
FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) _ New name, same mission.
Jim and Tammy Bakker’s old PTL getaway spot is now the Radisson Grand Resort, its new owners announced Friday.
The 501-room resort had been called the Heritage Grand Hotel. In the Bakker days, it was Heritage USA. Two years ago, the name was changed to New Heritage USA.
Even though the ″Jesus is God″ sign no longer hangs over the registration desk, managers said the hotel will retain its family image, with bans on smoking and alcohol.
″It will still be known as a religious family resort,″ said Jim Smith, Radisson’s district director in Charlotte, N.C.
Bakker, the former television evangelist, was convicted of criminal fraud and conspiracy in 1989. He had raised at least $158 million by selling lifetime partnerships, which included timeshare lodging in Heritage Village, but oversold lodging units and used the money to pay PTL expenses and support a lavish lifestyle.
