Sturgis man pleads not guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

DEADWOOD — A Sturgis man pleaded not guilty Thursday to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Walter Wiedmann, 89, was indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury Sept. 19. The indictment alleges the incident to have occurred July 16 in Lawrence County, where the defendant attempted by physical menace with a deadly weapon to put another in fear of imminent serious bodily harm.

Aggravated assault is a Class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine.

Wiedmann is scheduled for a status hearing

Nov. 29.
