Steelers kicker Chris Boswell practices; 3 other starters sit

October 6, 2018

Steelers kicker Chris Boswell watches his missed 49-yard field goal attempt against the Chiefs Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at Heinz Field.

Chris Boswell returned to Pittsburgh Steelers practice Thursday, but starters Morgan Burnett, Vince Williams and Marcus Gilbert did not.

Boswell left Wednesday’s practice early because of an injury to his left (plant) foot but was listed on the official injury as a full practice participant Thursday.

He is on track to play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but the status of the other three are in doubt.

Burnett has missed two regular-season games and sat out much of training camp because of a groin injury. For the second consecutive week, his status on the injury report has gotten worse as the week goes on. Rookie Terrell Edmunds would be in line to make his fourth start at strong safety.

Williams has not practiced this week after suffering a hamstring injury late in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore. A combination of L.J. Fort, Tyler Matakevich and Matthew Thomas would split duties in his place.

Gilbert was a surprise addition to the injury report after he played against the Ravens and practiced fully Wednesday. Matt Feiler started at right tackle in Week 3 when Gilbert was unavailable.

Veteran receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey also has not practiced this week.
