Witnesses describe gunfire, crash in Rocky Mount neighborhood
A Rocky Mount neighborhood became a crime scene Friday night.
WRAL’s Sky 5 flew over the scene of a car crash that was surrounded by police tape at about 6 p.m.
Ted Gray lives in the Cloverdale neighborhood and said he heard a crash and immediately rushed outside.
“I thought it was a transformer,” he said. “I heard a sound like gunfire. I heard wheels screeching. Then, I heard a loud bang.”
What he and the other neighbors saw when they came outside surprised them - a heavy police presence and an active investigation.
Gray and his neighbors say Cloverdale is usually quiet.
“Usually, there’s children playing in this area,” he said.
Neighbors are grateful no children were playing on the street at the time of this crash. But, another neighbor said things around here aren’t as quiet as they use to be.
“It’s a nice place to live, but we got to do something about this,” he said.
WRAL has reached out to authorities to get a better understanding about what led up to the crash. No additional information has been released.
