Dancers receive mark of excellence at dance festival
MT. PLEASANT — Dance teacher Patti Jo Hopes recently took the Wasatch Academy (WA) dance students to participate in the Utah High School Dance Festival at Corner Canyon High School, Draper.
While there, dance students had an opportunity to present a dance that was choreographed by WA senior Ami Konoike and junior Micah Inglish, which was adjudicated by prestigious dance choreographers and teachers. For their efforts, the Wasatch Academy dancers received a mark of excellence and received a trophy.
Students exceeded their teacher’s expectations, as the dance team was competing against large dance companies that practice 10 or more hours a week. In contrast, the WA dance students only had time to practice 45 minutes a day. “I am very proud of them,” said Hopes.
The dance festival is dedicated to a full day of sharing, learning, growing and performing hosted by the Utah Dance Education Organization (UDEO).
