HCESD 48 raises ISO rating
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD No. 48) was awarded a rating of Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 2 by the Texas Department of Insurance and the State Fire Marshal’s Office in April.
HCESD No. 48 hosted a brief event May 23 at its Station 5 administration building, 21201 Morton Road Katy, to recognize the men and woman who helped make this new rating possible and to present the ESD Board of Commissioners with a plaque to commemorate the occasion.
“You are among the select few to achieve a class 2 rating in Texas. The community has achieved one of the highest Public Protection Classification (PPC) ratings awarded by the Insurance Services Office and approved by the Texas Department of Insurance and are among the nation’s best,” according to the official letteer from the State Fire Marshal.
The Public Protection Classification is the classification system used countrywide by the Insurance Services Office to grade a community’s local fire protection. This grade is then used to set property insurance rates and a rating of Class 2 puts HCESD No. 48 in the top 7 percent of all rated Texas districts.
ISO classifies communities by grading such features as water distribution, fire department equipment and manpower, hydrant coverage and fire station facilities.
“This improved rating can lower the cost of property insurance rates for residential and commercial properties within our community. It has been our goal since the inception of our new agency in 2015 to make the community a safer place to live and work. This new ISO rating is proof that we are accomplishing what we set out to do just under four years ago,” said Fire Chief Jeff Hevey.
This is a very prestigious award for the district, an improvement from their previous rating of ISO 3, and HCESD No. 48 is proud and humbled to have achieved the ISO 2 rating, said Hevey. This is a direct result of the hard work and time HCESD No. 48 has put into providing efficient and effective fire protection services to the Katy area.
