Norden to Cut 25 Percent of Work Force
NORWALK, Conn. (AP) _ Norden Systems said it will eliminate 600 positions, about 25 percent of its work force, by the end of 1992 to help the company toward profitability.
The radar manufacturer, which has been losing money for five years, notified employees of the cutbacks in letters Wednesday. The company also offered early retirement incentives to 190 salaried employees.
″Hopefully this will get us closer to the goal of having a stable population at Norden,″ spokesman Scott Brinckerhoff said. ″No one likes to work with this kind of uncertainty.″
Norden, a subsidiary of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp., has gone through several rounds of layoffs in the past several years, and has eliminated 400 positions since the start of this year.
