Westlake gets first “clean” audit in years

January 24, 2018

WESTLAKE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana city has received its first “clean” audit in years.

The American Press reports that City Hall employees in Westlake can’t remember the last time an audit did not find any problems.

CPA Coy Vincent reported Monday that the general fund ended the 2016-17 fiscal year with a cash balance of $578,000, up about $132,000 from the year before. He said the fund’s net income balance was $318,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30 — up from $41,000 the year before.

He noted that the number of problems found each year has been dropping recently — from 14 in 2013-14, to seven the following year, to three in the 2015-16 fiscal year.

Westlake is a western Louisiana city of about 4,600 in Calcasieu (KAL-kuh-shoo) Parish.
