3,000 march in Connecticut Veterans Parade

November 2, 2014

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — An estimated 3,000 people marched in Hartford and thousands more lined the streets in what’s billed as New England’s largest veterans’ parade.

The Connecticut Veterans Parade began early Sunday afternoon at the state Capitol and wound its way through downtown.

Parade organizers say a vast majority of the marchers were veterans and included members of American Legion and VFW posts, other veterans groups, marching bands and fife and drum corps.

Politicians including Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman also marched.

This year’s grand marshal was retired Vice Adm. Melvin Williams Jr., whose three decades in the Navy included commanding nuclear submarines.
