Man, horse fatally struck by pickup truck south of Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a man riding a horse on a highway outside of Tucson was killed in a hit-and-run accident and a suspect has been arrested.
Pima County Sheriff’s officials say 36-year-old Dimas Leon Mariscal was taken into custody late Saturday after an hours-long search.
They say the 50-year-old man was riding his horse on the Nogales Highway south of Tucson.
Witnesses told investigators that a pickup truck crashed into the rider and horse before the vehicle’s driver then sped from the scene. The horse also did not survive.
The name of the man killed hasn’t been released yet.
Sheriff’s officials say Mariscal was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury or death.
