Ohio man who wanted son is sent to prison for abusing infant daughter

MASON, Ohio — A judge has sentenced a chiropractor to eight years in prison after prosecutors say he abused his infant daughter because he was upset she wasn’t a boy and that she was “fussy.”

Jason Maxwell Bittner, 33, had pleaded guilty in October to a second-degree felony of endangering children, according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell.

Fornshell says Bittner’s daughter was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center on Feb. 28 and was diagnosed with injuries that included bilateral subdural hemorrhages, hypoxic ischemic brain injury, retinal hemorrhages, 28 rib fractures, and facial bruising.

Investigators determined Bittner had abused the child two days earlier but did not bring her to the hospital. WCPO Channel 9 reports that Bittner tried to blame the infant’s injuries on a 2-year-old child living in the home.

“Anyone who has ever parented a newborn child understands that it is stressful,” Fornshell tells Fox 19. “But for a father to be so frustrated with a helpless infant that he would physically assault her, cause her to suffer lifelong brain damage, break 28 of her ribs and her leg, and then refuse to get her medical treatment and instead blame others for causing her injuries — it’s just incomprehensible and inexcusable.”

The long-term prognosis of the baby girl is undetermined.
