Pirates Hire Brian Graham
PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Brian Graham, a former Indians coach and a minor league executive and manager with the Marlins and Orioles, was hired Monday as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ director of player development.
He succeeds Paul Tinnell, who was not brought back after Dave Littlefield replaced Cam Bonifay as the general manager.
Graham was the minor league field coordinator for the Florida Marlins last season after working in the Orioles’ farm system for a year. He was the Indians’ first base coach and infield coach in 1999.
Graham also managed for nine seasons, twice winning manager of the year awards. He managed the Indians’ Triple-A Buffalo farm club to an 84-60 record and Eastern Division title in 1996.
A former minor league second baseman, Graham played football and baseball at UCLA, finishing as the school’s career leader in hits, stolen bases and runs scored.
