Smith Takes Junior Crown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Morgan Smith of Westford captured the championship at the US Challenge Cup World Series of Junior Golf at Triggs Memorial Golf Club on Thursday.
Morgan, 14, won the girls division by shooting 76 on Wednesday and 74 Thursday for a 6-over total of 150.
She defeated Emily Nash of Lunenburg, a high school player, by one shot. Allison Paik of Providence tied for second as well.
Morgan’s sister Molly, 13, finished fourth with a 9-over total of 74-79--153.
The US Challenge Cup is one of the top tournaments in New England for juniors.
Molly will play in the Junior World Golf Championships in California next week before returning home to defend her title in the Lowell Women’s City Tournament. She will be paired with Morgan in the final group with Jessica Hughes.
The Smith sisters are the daughters of Phil Smith, the eight-time champion of the Lowell Men’s City Tournament.
