Killed Guerrillas Mourned in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) _ Thousands of Palestinians, some carrying black flags and anti-Israeli banners, marched in a funeral procession Friday for seven guerrillas killed in an Israeli air raid in Lebanon.
Mourners from refugees camps throughout Syria gathered at the funeral in the Yarmouk refugee camp near Damascus.
They burned Israeli flags and an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as they carried the coffins toward the camp cemetery.
The seven were among 10 guerrillas killed Wednesday when Israeli jets fired rockets at a training camp used by the radical Fatah Uprising faction. The group, which broke away from Yasser Arafat’s mainstream Fatah faction in 1983, opposes Palestinian-Israeli peace agreements.
